Thanks to the award from the Local Committee Neighbourhood Grants Panel we have been able to organise and subsidise a series of activities for children with an Autistic Spectrum Disorder and their siblings.
The first activity was a taster day at Bendrigg Lodge and the children enjoyed taking part in a range of activities including rock climbing, abseiling, archery the zip wire, an adventure course and the tube slide. The staff were fantastic and all the children had a great time.
We have held regular swimming sessions at Dalton Leisure Centre where we hire the pool for our use only.
The other activities have included trampoline sessions, archery, horse riding, the climbing wall and a visit to Docker Park Farm.
Children with Autism often find it very difficult to access mainstream activities, but when with others that understand their difficulties they have been able to join in and enjoy a wide range of activities.
